The McPherson Valve Screamer™ is an 808 style pedal that utilises a real 12AU7 Valve (tube), to create a new spin on one of the most famous overdrives ever produced.
Our goal was to completely redesign, not just modify, the original circuit, giving the user access to the traditional vintage 808 tones, as well as a whole bunch of new options. We have also incorporated a real Tube into the circuit for some natural, organic tube warmth.
We have secured a small stock of USA made (NOS) Phillips JAN 12AU7’s (6189w). These will be installed at no additional cost into every Valve Screamer™ until we run out.
Controls :
Gain : Controls the level of saturation from clean through to dirty.
Voice : This unique control shapes the units overall tone and gain. Ranging from tight and crisp to smooth and creamy.
Tone : This control offers a wide range of tuning for the high end frequencies, making it easy to dial in the right amount of edge.
Volume: Sets the overall output of the unit.
There is plenty of horse power on tap to push your amp into break up, or let your solos punch through the mix.
The Voice control is great for matching the pedal with your guitar/amp setup and easily dialing in the type of tone your after.
With a turn of the Voice control you can go from a rockier Wylde style OD to a very sweet Vintage 808 tone, or even a creamy smooth vintage Blues Breaker overdrive. There is a lot of scope for fine tuning.
All this adds up to a very organic overdrive that has a strong 808 vibe, with a huge range of control and tonal flexibility.

This unit must only be powered by a regulated 9v negative centre (Boss Style) power supply (not included). These units do not take batteries.
Due to the use of a real 12AU7 valve, this unit draws 350ma.
Please check your power supply handling before operating this pedal.

**** NEW **** No Valve Option
We have been asked to modify this circuit so it can be used without the Valve and associated circuitry.
The main reason for this, is to drop the hefty power consumption from 350ma to 20ma, so the Valve Screamer™ can easily be daisy chained along with your other pedals.
The no valve circuit has also been modified to deliver the same sweet/organic tone, with the same extended range of tonal options.
So the choice is yours…….. Tube tone without compromise, or pedalboard friendly tone monster.
