Description
The Black OP Compressor™ was initially Inspired by the legendary Teletronix® LA2A studio compressor.
Our goal was to create a studio grade optical compressor in a stompbox format. We believe we’ve managed to capture that same smooth, natural response, while still delivering a totally transparent tone.
The all analogue, point to point hand wired circuit adjusts to your instruments incoming signal, negating the need for excessive controls. This allows for an easy setup and ‘on the fly’ adjustments, essential when performing live.
The Black OP Compressor™ keeps all your tone intact, while also providing some powerful tone shaping options to tailor the unit to your liking.
Controls :
- Comp : Set your amount of compression from zero to a 10:1 ratio.
This control knobs micro adjustability, lets you find your sweet spot easily.
- Volume : Set the output volume of the unit
When set to minimum along with the Comp control, the unit is in buffering mode with only the Filter control active.
The unit has a huge amount of output, making it an excellent choice for a clean booster.
- Filter : Adds warmth by smoothing out top end frequencies
If you prefer complete detail or a little natural smoothing of the high-end, this control is great for tuning the units overall tone.
- Mode : When the Volume control is being used this switch selects the overall frequency range of the unit to match your instrument or tone you are looking for
- Normal : This range is set to work well with a normal electric or acoustic guitar.
- Cut : This range tightens low end and is great when boosting.
- Fullrange : This mode keeps all the lowend intact, great for any instrument range or adding a little more meat to your tone.
There is a lot of mystery and confusion over a compressors role as a guitar effect.
A compressor works on your signals dynamics (volume changes), boosting quieter notes and bringing down the level of louder ones.
The tone, feel and sustain you can get from using a good quality correctly setup compressor is magic.
Look at many of the worlds great guitarists and no doubt you will see a compressor in their setup.
Use it to even out your guitars volume (single coils vs Humbucker or strumming vs fingerstyle).
Increase sustain when soloing, or add a touch of chick’n pick’n goodness to your clean single note runs.
The mark of a great compressor is one that you can forget is on. The McPherson Black OP Compressor™ sits firmly in this category of studio quality units.
Once you experience a good quality compressor, you will never want to leave home with out it.
